Members urbanscallywag
Stuff that's a bit more common-place yet has limited appeal will probably be devalued the most. DX7s, D-50s, and digital synths in general will probably take a further drop. I don't think you'll see SY99s and N264s demanding almost a grand like they are now sometimes. I think most people will sell their house before they sell their minimoogs, jupiter-8s or CS80s, so I don't think those prices will vary that much. Only people who really love them have them at this point. I think mid-tier stuff will be hardest hit.

Members grumphh
The economy is HUGE, and there's still plenty of money and opportunity. That's the spirit! Go America, go! You must be a reincarnated musician from the Titanic
Members augerinn
That's the spirit! Go America, go! You must be a reincarnated musician from the Titanic Nope, I'm not a die hard patriot, nor a militant caplitalist. I just try and practice some principles in my life, one of which is Abundance. Another is Hope (I've been hopeless before, it's not a fun place to be.) And, another one we will all learn from this economy soon enough is Patience. Members Delicious Lamprey Problem
Besides, a lot of the financial scaremongering headlines right now are a cover up for the real news, which is the skirmishes we're having with Pakistan. Members raffor
My GAS was already at an all-time low due to the birth of my son, and the fact that I have a synth now that is so deep, I haven't even scratched the surface of all it can do. It's good to be a newbie, sometimes. Congratulation on your son!! The lack of sleep covers GAS pretty good.

Why spending money on a sample based drum machine when you can sample it?? Look at the prices now, they are more in the $500++ region. Never underestimate digital!!! Members AfroRouge
I'm willing to bet that the first wave of stuff to hit the used market will be the standard supply of GAS-whore gear, the stuff in the $500ish range. I wouldn't buy an Electribe right now, that's for sure. Vintage gear by now is in the hands of people who have the means to not need to sell it in a down time. It's the 20-somethings who are about to get laid off of their first "real" job that's been funding their gear instead of funding their savings account who will need to sell. They'll sell it in order to pay off their credit card debt for the stuff they've just bought.
Members augerinn
Not always. I'm 40 something, and officially unemployed. I have a Juno-60 that is going NOWHERE. Also, a Wavestation A/D, and some other stuff. I also have very little credit card debt (Maybe 1500) and very low overhead. Right sized is a good thing. Members raffor
I am in my 40s and I have GAS for the Stromberg! That is all. And the good thing is that before that synth is available economy picked up and we are all happy and GASy again.

Members keybdwizrd
Given the crisis in confidence, and the public's general mistrust for anybody related to Washington and Wall Street, if I was George W I'd put together a group to 1) work to restore confidence in the system, and 2) serve as a think-tank/advisory board to Paulsen, etc. I'd recruit some really smart people who are well-known, and while they may not be perfect, could lend some confidence to the situation, and provide an extra sense of leadership. George W needs to bring in some extra help. People on my short list would include Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Meg Whitman, Michael Bloomberg, Steve Jobs, Bill Clinton, and George Bush, Sr.

Look at Berlusconi, he has the biggest Italian media empire and is among the richest in Italy, but he still can't run the country well (strictly from a financial point of view). The italian echonomy is among the weakest in Europe (long before the word-wide financial crash).

Someone said to me, many years ago, "Perception is everything." That phrase stuck in my head, and so many countless times I've been reminded of how true a statement that is. He can restore confidence by leaving office. Any group he would put together would be for the wrong reasons, 8 years of him in office has proven that. Bush appointing Clinton to a commission would be less believable than Richard Simmons marrying a girl. This is the guy whose past appointments have been Cheney, Aschcroft, Rummy, Bolton et al. Wall Street+ Gumbmint= same thing, thanks to our new socialism. The new head of Wall Street? Dubya. He should hang a big sign on the White House that says "Gone Fishin", and head to Crawford until January when he comes back to pardon Cheney and the boys. He's literally the last person on the planet that should be involved with this, he'll just mess it up even more.

Why spending money on a sample based drum machine when you can sample it?? Look at the prices now, they are more in the $500++ region. Never underestimate digital!!! The current prices for the original LinnDrum are something I can't understand. It's not like someone will record a new worldwide hit with it... but I've always been more of a TR-909 fan than a LinnDrum fan (when it comes to those sounds). At least that TR-909 bass drum and snare can be tweaked to sound very modern, I still constantly hear them in dance music... Well, maybe there's mainstream stuff still being released with LinnDrum sounds and I'm just none the wiser...

Members The Real MC
I'm not worried about my investments but I am worried about getting a loan if my car were to crap out tomorrow. So I am putting off GAS to build up my savings and to get rid of credit card balances. And winter is coming, which means heating bills.
