Members companyman
....is it possible to bypass the amp modeling and just use the effects section? How is the tone? Is the tube preamp any good? etc.
Members hecticone
I thought the amp sims were really decent and so was the od and distortions. I thought where it was lacking was the modular effects.
Members companyman
hmmmm, were the effects lacking in sound quality, or tweakability?
Members kirs
Cant speak to the mod effects but the amp sims are fantastic. I never heard a modeler get the power amp feel right until I heard the ST's Marshall JVM model. I use mine all the time.

For what you are wanting the new Zoom G3 is ideal. It's basically a 1/2 price version of an M9.

I kinda like that idea better than the usual 12ax7 preamp modeling thing....

Would be cool if they made a two tube Tonelab with a tube preamp. Either way, the power amp is where the sweet tone comes from and nothing emulates it like the Tonelab. Members companyman
so you guys running the Tonelab ST in the front of your amp or in the effects loop?
Members companyman
I think, because the tube is meant to emulate the powerstage, it seems to sound better in the loop, set to line output.
Members fly135
All multifx amp sims are "meant" to emulate the power stage. Don't let the tube "fake-a-circuit" lead you to believe it's better.
