I have seen this phenomonon regarding goin back to the 5150 quite often. I've tried many high gain amplifiers (including the esteemed powerball) and I have yet to discover one that can match the 5150's aggressive nature and cutting upper mid voicing. Go get one man. It feels and sounds good to be home.

Geez man, you're a gear buying and selling machine! Now get a second cab and a splitter and run that Blackmore and 5150 both at the same time

5150's are badass amps and to me don't get the credit they deserve because of the name on them and the price. I am a big Peavey fan and would buy a 5150 in a second, you're right they just have that mid grind that nothing else to my knowledge does.
