Members realbeeker
i was just wondering how do the dsl combos fare compared to the dsl heads. i have tried a dsl 50 and really liked that but i am wondering if the combo will give you much the same tone. Members LaXu
No contest. The DSL heads sound 10 times better. The DSL combos are a completely different design and IMO they sound weak and are unreliable. Expensive crap I'd say. I do like the DSL heads though. I think Marshall should just discontinue the DSL401 and stuff the DSL50 and DSL100 into combo format.

Members paul6string
The DSL 401 doesn't use the same tubes for the power section. The DSL 50 and !00 use el 34's. I'm not sure about the 401, but I think they use el84's.
Members Narcosynthesis
I use a DSL401 and love it... It may not be the same sounds as the heads, but it sounds {censored}ing awesome to me i like the extra channel over the heads too (clean, od1 and od2 - od1 with a 20dB boost) and the separate eq sections for clean/dirty i would like a new speaker for mine, but imho it sounds great, maybe not 'pure vintage marshall' but i dont really care, it gives me a good sound so i am happy there were reports of problems with them, though marshall did switch the rectifier for an updated version. mine has been running for a couple of years and no problems so far at least...
