Interesting VH observation

Was watching some VH vids when I noticed on this one he is definitely cutting some type of drive/distortion pedal on off..........

when he stomps it off his tone is very weak/thin.

check it out..........so much for the theory all his gain was in his amps...

Maybe it's another amp set to cleaner tone and he's just stepping on an A/B switch?

Hard to say.

Randy Rhoads used the MXR Dist+ combined with the MXR 10 band EQ.

Everybody used the Dist+ back in the day.

Was watching some of the old VH vids, like the live You're No Good. He's got some nice distortion going .........doubtful it was only his amp.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was something as mundane as an MXR or SD-1. I can get very brown with my Super Lead and SD-1. Depending on how it's set of course. Closer to VH than into the amp itself.

Did you watch the vid? He's not touching his volume....he's stomping something.

How do you know he isn't switching to a Marshall set cleaner?

That's what I meant actually... Marshall Super Lead or {censored}... even a Major set cleaner and an A/B box...

So much speculation... It's probably a stompbox into a clean Marshall... :D

Possible, but doubtful, IMO.

I saw enough bar bands in the late 70's/early 80's copping VH with Marshalls and a Dist+ to guess that's pretty much a good indication he was using a pedal for gain.
