Im 90 percent sure that was a VHT2150 poweramp, and a CAE 3+SE preamp, through marshall cabs.

I don't know when that album came out but I remember reading a article in a Guitar mag about Dave trying Marty out and having him plug into his gear and he mentioned the VHTpoweramp ..

I don't remember the pre-amp . But he talked about VHT a lot

Accordig to this interview from Dave around the time Countdown was released

http://megadeth.rockmetal.art.pl/articles_practisingmusician1992.html

He was using:

King V

VHT Power Amp

Bogner Preamp

Marshall 300 Cabinets

Tubeworks preamp for lead work

Mustaine's gear has remained the same - his production line King V from Jackson, a VHT power amp, a Bogner preamp, Marshall 300 cabinets, and a Tubeworks preamp for his lead work - but a new component now plays a key role in his sound: the BBE 441, from Barkus Berry Electronics, a delay unit with parametric EQ.

That was in his live rack after the recording of the cd.

He gain stacked both channels of the Tubeworks preamp as well.

But for the cd it was the CAE and the VHT.

Not really too sure. Marshalls, and Dave used a rockman distortion generator through them at one stage....and metaltronix amps and marshalls for so far so good so what?

I agree with the VHT and CAE thing too.

The JMP-1 was only used during the Cryptic Writings Era. Then Dave moved to a Rocktron Piranha for Risk, and then after that it's the Rocktron Prophesy.

So many different combinations.:D

This is what I've always thought. Mostly from articles and shit.

R.I.P.

JMP-1

CAE 3+

VHT 2150

Crate V30 cabs (Absolute best metal tone ever)

Countdown

Rocktron Prophecy

Bogner Fish

EL34 100/100

Marshall cabs (Not sure about speakers)

Since then??...............Couldn't fucking tell ya. I quit chasing after every article about Mega Dave, and haven't seen them live since Youthanasia.

I saw a pic of his rig in A magazine and he was using the Marshall JMP-1, Marshall 100/100 power amp, a Marshall effects processor, and an aural exciter(not quite sure if thats the right name but it's like the bbe sonic maximizer). That was his live rig but I can't remember the year.

I found an old 'thrash-oriented' issue of Guitar School, with an interview with dave and dave right after the LA Riots. The following quote refers to getting Marty to mesh with Megadeth, so the gear he's talking about was used on Rust in Peace, possibly on Countdown.

"We didn't discover what a good lead player he was until he started using my gear. We had our tech set up a duplicate of my system for him, which consisted of a Bogner Triple Giant preamp and a VHT 2150 poweramp."
