Members relictele
Love it x 1000 I have never heard the Rockman (portable or rack) units for some reason although I've seen them in a few shops secondhand. *Checks Ebay listings* I have heard that they are a close but not quite an exact match to the sound on the first two Boston albums. 'Third Stage' of course used the Rockman and I think Tom Scholz got a little too infatuated with chorus - but then so did everyone else in 1985-1986. Paraphrasing TS' liner notes: "the Rockman was used to avoid having to replicate the huge array of amps, effects and power soaks that created the original Boston guitar sound." I can get about 85% or closer to the sound with: 1985 Carvin DC-150 (M22SD with midrange boost bridge pickup, tone control rolled off to 1!) -> TS-9 Tube Screamer -> just a touch of chorus -> Nanocompressor -> red channel of Mesa/Boogie Trem-O-Verb combo From what I've read a wah pedal 'stuck' on a certain gate setting to give it that nasal tone is a key element of their sound. Members Karma1
I also love the Boston/Scholz tone. I saw them in Boston around 1980 with Journey opening the show. It was a night of tone heaven.
