Members -=MYK=-
I used to really dig on the version he did on the G3 dvd, but the cleans just sound terrible on the Cd version. They're all distant and junk. Anyone else notice this, or is that the clean sound like everyone likes?
Members Megadeth7684
I haven't listened to the album version in a long time, but I watch the G3 live vid all the time. Sounds amazing there.
Members -=MYK=-
Someone told me that he did a lot of overdub things on the DVD. I don't want to believe that, but knowing Eric Johnson....
Members mataharry
The cleans on the G3 dvd are when he used two Fender Deluxes in stereo, split thru a TC Chorus pedal. The cleans on the album are his earlier rig, which was two Fender Twin heads in stereo. In the studio, however, it could be anything, including direct. The deluxes sounded cool, but small. In the 80's when he had those 2 Twin heads thru a Marshall 4X12 in stereo, with the Fender Reverb Tank as well as delay, it was awesome

Members Snax Panther
I don't care how he achieved such a tone. All that matters is that it's beautiful and amazing. Well, the G3 one anyway.

Members Paul VanJohnson
I like the cleans on the album version but I haven't really compared the tone to the G3 DVD (only watched it once). Now that you've pointed it out I'll have to compare. My favorite tones on Venus Isle are the two solos on "When the Sun Meets the Sky". They just flow seemlessly back and forth between clean, neck P'up lead and all out bridge P'up lead. Oh course the playing is stellar too.

Please bear in mind that Im not interested in copping any of them either. Hes easy on the ears for sure....Kage

Members DeadNight Warrior
I agree, the G3 clean tone just craps all over the studio one. It just sounds dead compared to that G3 sound, IMO.
Members cloudnine
All About You's end soloing tone is what Jesus woulda sounded like had he played guitar, methinks.
Members Tonemeister87
Yeah, that clean tone is amazing. I haven't heard the CD version but he certainly does PWN the G3 in terms of tone (at least)
