Members Slim Jim
And my amp is not found again..but I somehow get the insurance money back would you: A) Buy the Bogner Ecstasy again B) Look into a different amp It couldn't be anything over $3,600 If I was to go down that road, I was thinking of either 1) Mesa Roadster2) Orange AD140THC3) Orange Rockerverb 504) Engl Invader5) Framus Dragon6) VHT.. but I'm not too familiar with their lineup Do you think any of these will suit my needs and wants better than the Bogner XTC at all? I mean, that amp is incredibly hard to beat. But my wants and needs are: Impeccable clean.Nice meduim gain.Good hi-gain for palm-muting, heaviness. However, I'm not lookin for too modern.More British voiced..Somethin like Thursday, Thrice, and Every Time I Die.They all use Marshalls.. so, something along the lines of those.. Thanks. Members TheGreatGreen
for that kind of money, I'd buy two amps. One dedicated to cleans, and one for the heavy stuff. What I'd do is basically take a mental note of how the Bogner sounds, and play a bunch of different amps dedicated to a single sound. Ask yourself questions like "does this amp, build for clean tones, have a better clean tone than the Bogner?", and similar questions for other amps centered around one or two basic sounds. If you end up finding a particular combination of amps that sound better in their respective areas than the Bogner sounds in those areas and that costs about the same or less as the Bogner, get the combination of amps. If you can't find a group of amps that does every individual sound you want better than the Bogner, get the Bogner. Basically, if you can find an amp with a better clean than the Bogner's clean, AND an amp with a better high gain tone than the Bogner's high gain, get those amps instead of the Bogner. Members garagebandking9
You need a Marshall SL-X...with 5881s...its the sex...orgasming hot gooey high gain all over itself...its a bit tighter than the EL34 and can do anything from vintage hard rock up through 80s metal and thrash with ease...I think it could do death metal but I don't play that so I wouldn't care...some people around here need more gain than she is capable of doling out...it can be classic or modern depending on what you're looking for And you'd have more than enough to go get a smoking clean amp of your choosing...and then pocket the rest... Members Slim Jim
Well.. For gigging purposes, it's more practical to just get one amp head. Otherwise.. I might have gotten a DSL and a Hot Rod Deluxe or.. something.. But it's easier for me, personally, to get the most versatile sounding amp i can get. And I just fell in love with the sound of Bogner. But I'm just looking to explore my options

Members batotman
I'd probably buy a cheaper amp.And invest in one of these....To kill. KILL. TO GNASH HIS TEETH AND LEAVE PUDDLES OF BLOOD AND GUTS EVERYWHERE!

Members paintkilz
when i sawthrice they were using mesa dual rectos and uberschalls... their singer ran a blonde dual recto with a 412 and 212, and teipei(?) ran the same cab setup with an uberschall... id say go with the invader...be a pioneer...if i had alot of many for an amp, thats where id go.. Members GYBE!
get an xtc again...or a vht ul. The Roadster would be tempting, but I think the other two are better options. You couldn`t pay me enough to buy most Engls, so I am not to hopeful for the Invader.

Members Cooker
I'll tell ya one thing. I defintely wouldn't blow $3600 on an amp head. Obviously you don't want cheap crap gear but you shouldn't need to spend over 1-2k.

Members yoh_yoh
I would personally buy a Mark IV and save the rest for something else... maybe a new guitar or a 5150 mmmm...
Members Slim Jim
Didn't like the Mark IV, personally. Sounded caustic. 5150's don't do it for me either. Cleans are just doable. I didn't like the distortion enough. PAINTKILZ: How long ago did you see Thrice? When I saw them a year ago, they both ran Marshall JCM800's and Teppei had a Vox AC30 for cleans. I think they were both 2210's. I heard something about them being modded though. Tell me more about the VHT UL. What tones is it capable of? Seems like I'm after a British voiced amp. But yes.. What is the VHT UL capable of?

Members starsnuffer
I have a 101B. It's the one amp that I would replace in an instant if it was lost or stolen. I'm not saying that it is the "end all, be all" amp, but it is the one amp that I honestly love more then any other amp. Nothing I've played has the dynamic response and the range of the XTC, no matter how much gain you are or are not using. I'd like to own a deliverence or a VH4 someday, but while I would trade my recto for one, I'd never trade the XTC. -W
