Members maravich
Your thoughts on these two pedals please? I play into a clean tube amp so I'm looking for a pedal as the source of dirt. Which pedal produces a smoother grind with the gain dimed? Thanks!

Members Cougar Hunter
I've never played an OD-3. but, I have a bad monkey and a route 66. the bad monkey is definitely grittier. Nasty is probably the best word. It's still fairly smooth, but not as smooth as an 808 or 808 clone (like the 66). I don't love the monkey, but for $30-40, it's an absolute steal. Good description, IMO. I've thought about modding my ts-10 for more bass since the main thing I like about the Bad Monkey is the ability to boost without losing any bass. I had a stock SD-1, very smooth and oh sooo transparent ! It is also dirt cheap . . . I also had a TS10 at the time, and they sounded way to simmilar so i got my SD-1 modded to the SPIDER spec's :Now i have this Spider SD-1 (w. slotted Diodes & OP-AMP's) and traded my TS10 for a TS9 Now i have gas for the OD-3 !Always did like the OD-3 slightly more than the SD-1, but the SD-1 was way cheaper (still is) then.Saying that, i likie the OD-3 for it's hint of Marshall tone, but i am getting my Marshall Blues Breaker II, tomorow ! Great OD for that Marshall-tone !

I like the OD-3 and the Keeley mod is wicked easy to do (just remove a couple diodes.)The Bad Monkey (IMO) is a more gained out tubscreamer with more bass. It sounds great throught my Fender, but not so great through my Peavey Classic 50. The OD3 kills it on the Classic. That's why alot has to do with the amp you're running. Members Coverdale
I have an OD-3... would that mod be cool on a switch to bypass the diodes, or no big difference to justify it?

(darker sounding compared to mex b.jr's) btw.i'm thinking of getting a seymour duncan twin tube classic, but i'll have to survive on cup noodles for the next few months.what i want to know is, is the dimed gain from modded OD-3 as smooth as the dimed gain from the twin tube? is the twin tube worth the $130 price diff or will the od-3 suffice? So, i have the Mexican Blues Jr., and sometimes think it might be a tad on the bright side, but the EQ-knobs just make it muddy, not darker. How much more darker would you say is yours, compared to mine ?How can i loose some top-end sparkle, and get more of a Vintage Blackface Growl from it ? Thanx

Thanx the od-3 mod clips sound good!the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on an od-3 is the buffered bypass. I have a fz-2 that bleeds thru when bypassed. it drives me nuts. plus i have 4 other boss pedals in the chain, so the bypass becomes a cause for concern for me.hehe i've seen some mods to make the U.S. B.jr to sound like the creamboard Bjr.tough to say how much darker it is, but i cant get sparkle from mine. dime-ing the treble knob only accentuates the "ice-pick." there seems to be some low-mid mud i can take off. it's sort of lacking in presence. could be the stock speaker. Got a call today, the Marshall BBII came in (i ordered one), and thet got a bunch (about 10) of Boss pedals from one guy today !All are hidden untill i get there tomorrow moring at 9am !Do not know all of them, but one is a FZ-3 Been looking for one for bloody 3 years now !There is also an OD-3 & SD-2 . . . Is there a big diff. in the FZ-2 & FZ-3 ? . . . also, been thinking of getting a more 'efficient', thus louder, speaker, but i do not know what i want !V30 ?Jensen ?Weber ?
