Boosting the input of a mixer = better sound!

Alright so now that I have your attention :wave::rolleyes: .....

 

 

 

Do you guys think it's good practice to distort the input preamp of a mixer? Could it break or something?

 

It's interesting really, I've just realised the preamp in my mixer (Gigrac 300) yields a pretty nice distortion when pushed really hard, that's just perfect for electric piano! Really!

Well, it was proven last week that boosting the input adds 5 years to the musician's playing. If you crank the gain and put a tubescreamer in front of the mixer, your piano player will sound like Chopin, guaranteed.

Yeah that's what I tought...

At least it's not the poweramp i'm distorting.

 

 

@ Rushtallica, The signal was too strong for the input of the mixer so it distorted... It's the keyboard I use.. That's why there's a pad on the mixer, but without it it distorts nicely.
