Members lefchr
The only thing that puts me off is the need to regularly change valves. That's why I was thinking about the SS option. No other reason other than that really. How often do you consider regularly, I usually have to change power tubes about once a year. I had to change one preamp tube that want bad. Members Junkienurse
Seeing as the valve replacement issue has been sorted out, what do you guys think about going for a combo rather than a head-cab setup? I saw the TSL100 combo which, at 100 watts, seems like more than enough power and would save me money on a cab. I could always get extension cabs later anyway. What are your opinions on this? Am I heading in the right direction?
Members Tommy Horrible
I don't understand why more Metal Guys don't go with the Randall option. To me that Solid State Inhuman Super Gain sound Is what I think of when I think over the top metal.
Guest Anonymous
I instinctively want to go with a valve amp but worry about the reliability and cost of replacement valves so have been looking more and more at the solid state option. What are your thoughts? Need something that could play unmic'd at a medium/small venue but that could also keep up with a v. loud, punk style combo.Currently using a {censored}ty Laney practice amp.Other gear is a Fender US Strat, Schecter Diamond Series, Rat peddle, and that's it! A Mesa Mark IV would be perfect for you.
