Members c2dzmm
I took my 81 Marshall JCM 800 2203 head to an amp tech recently to have the filter caps replaced. The original caps were blue(daley brand). The new caps are black and JJ brand. The new caps are about half the size as the originals(length wise). Before I call the amp shop to ask them why the filter caps are smaller than the originals, I would like some input from you guys about the size difference. Thanks
Members Craven Morehead
They are the same value (lets hope, heh), they are just smaller, and black. I've heard of some reliability issues awhile back, but I've never used them myself. Mostly because they were smallish, and black, just didn't look right. F&T caps are cool, I used them to redo my superlead, no probs. They are big and blue like the old daly and lcr caps, and equally cool lookin. Members Duesentrieb
JJs are ok, no probs with them using them for years now in 10+ amps. I'm sure your tech replaced the correct value
Members ComingApart
Yeah, the JJ caps are physically smaller, I realized that when I put some in my Laney a while back. The values are the same, they are just smaller in size.No big deal. Members cap'n'crunch
Yep, I replaced mine with JJ's and they are fine. There the same value but, for some reason are smaller in size. In this case, size does'nt matter....lol
Members TheAmpNerd
Just like most things electronic, electrolytic capshave also decreased in size over the years too.
