A private seller means it's an individual selling like you and me as opposed to a business or shop.Just check the feedback and previous items sold to get a feel as to whether they are trustworthy.. I've done very well buying amps and guitar effects on eBay, and I'm watching a couple guitars right now. The only reason I wouldn't buy a guitar off eBay is the same reason I'm not big on buying one brand new from any retailer: I'd rather try the guitar first, and buy the one that felt right in my hands. If something looks really good to you, just make sure you read the ad carefully (good sellers will tell you any issues the instrument has up front), and buy from sellers with a lot of positive feedback.
