Amp restoration - what are the rules ?

Someone gave me an old Lafayette amp (Univox U45B). I want to fix it up a little without harming its vintage value (probably $150-200). What can I change ? I need to change the pots at least and probably some caps. The tolex is a little damaged also.

Just replace the filtercaps and any other components that aren't working. A decent amp tech should go over it. My problem with amps like that is that they use weird tubes that are getting harder to find.

1 12AX7, 2 6BM8, 1 6X4 rectifier.

Not hard to find, and NOS 6BM8s are less than $20/ea.

3Prong (grounded) cord, if it doesn't have one.

My neighbor (who claimed to be recording with Ted Nuget) was in love with it. I think it is ok. Clean it is nice, but I liked my Mesa F-50 better. The Univox and the Vox Tonelab are a match made in heaven. I cranked it a couple times it sounds a bit flabby on the low end. Tremolo doesn't work but I never use it anyway. A friend just gave it to me. I replaced the dead tubes and it works.
