Members New Trail
I write songs for our band but I don't write "music" as in notes on paper. I feel that I need to learn to write melody sheets in order to copyright my songs. The problem is that I don't really read music. Are there any shortcut options so that I can do this? Members Chicken Monkey
You can just send an mp3 to the copyright office, FWIW.
Members blue2blue
Yeah, if the only reason you want to learn standard notation is for copyright purposes, relax. BTW, since copyrighting individual songs gets expensive pretty quickly, and you're not at this time formally publishing your songs, you could get protection for a group of them by copyrighting them as a 'collected work.' One proviso I've often heard with regard to that: there's an addendum you want to attach to the collective copyright for each song that will allow the copyright database to be searched for your song individually. AIUI, the addendum is only a dollar or two per song, instead of the full copyright fee. (What is it, now, $40?) And they've made it easier to file online. Members diggthis23
This is a very obvious plug, but the site in my signature links to my website. In the toolbar, there's a blog for fast answer, but there's also some home study guides. Up to you
