I need to learn to write 'music.' Any quick study sites?

I write songs for our band but I don't write "music" as in notes on paper. I feel that I need to learn to write melody sheets in order to copyright my songs. The problem is that I don't really read music. Are there any shortcut options so that I can do this?

Yeah, if the only reason you want to learn standard notation is for copyright purposes, relax. :)

BTW, since copyrighting individual songs gets expensive pretty quickly, and you're not at this time formally publishing your songs, you could get protection for a group of them by copyrighting them as a 'collected work.' One proviso I've often heard with regard to that: there's an addendum you want to attach to the collective copyright for each song that will allow the copyright database to be searched for your song individually. AIUI, the addendum is only a dollar or two per song, instead of the full copyright fee. (What is it, now, $40?) And they've made it easier to file online.
