Hard cases, soft gig bags, pedal board cases and amp cabinets. Here is my mandolin case. 1/2 inch ply. Ordinary hardware store hardware including a piano hinge. Case has outer zippered vinly soft case. Inside is red velvet over cut and shaped foam. Center neck support also acts as the center support for the case. I can jump up and down on this case without damaging my mandolin. Haven't tried to drive over it yet. Basically I make a box the finished size required and then run the four sides thru a table saw so I end up with the top and bottom having the exact same outside dimensions.
