I picked the right one though.
Members exafro
Obviously that was a turd of a Strad. MINE is way better sounding. You must be deaf if you can't tell the difference.
Members Bumhucker
Stradivarius quality control has gone downhill. They just rely in their name and reputation. {censored}ing bastards.

Members Kardula
Tone is in the preconceptions/money spent but that's one of the fascinating things about this study, it wasn't just a listening study, they actually had people playing the things. Members MahaloVision
It's interesting in that NPR considers a violin made in 1980 to be "new". Besides, everybody knows that Stradivarius made new violins. Then they were modified and repaired to the point that he couldn't recognize them, if he were alive to inspect them. Members JimAnsell
you guys are missing the point with the les paul thing.sure most ears couldn't tell the difference between the sound of a real 59, and a RI.You have to shell out the extra money, if you want Baby Boomer Braging Rights. Members Edge11
The question is did the new one play as well as the old one? Ps they both didn't sound good cause they weren't played through a dumble
Members Thy God
Funny. I could tell a difference, I guessed right, but I liked the one from 1980 better. But yes, they clearly should've played through a Dumble. Something got lost in the crystal lettuce.
Members Cougar Hunter
clip 1 had chewier mids. harsher high end too. clip 2 had haunting mids. It had a resonance the first one lacked, as well. IMO going back to check which is which. (I'm guessing 2 is the Strad)

Members Nevandal
Clip 2 has a slightly sweeter sound, some of the faster runs of notes seem to blend together...although it could've been the violinist playing it differently. Clip 1 (the newer violin) has a more well defined sound (edgier and notes more well defined) and would probably sound better in a mix. The differences are so subtle, though, that noone really cares. Members soilent
This is hilarious Absolutely agree. Anyway, I could tell the difference and guessed right. However, I still think the newer violin sounded better. {censored} it. I play with EMGs and an Axe Fx. I love the sound of modern technology. Violins are high pitched & screechy...like some woman being murdered. The Viola on the other hand, has a huskier voice...somewhat sexier.I guess that's why Violin sounds similar to violence and Viola sounds like vagina.
