We're talking about just doing an internet only release. I know how much more important it is to actually have merchandise into the hands of people. But I figure for $5 for 7 songs you're letting people spend the money at the bar. Plus with us being able to record stuff by ourselves and not cost us any studio time, there's little to no over head.

Anyone have any luck in selling their music online through Band camp or getting music on Itunes?

I use (and LOVE) BandCamp. I've given away a lot more than I've sold, but you can set it up so that you trade a download for an email address. You can do the same with NoiseTrade (http://www.noisetrade.com).

Over the last year or so, I've built a mailing list of well over 3000 emails - all by giving away downloads for email addresses. In my opinion, exposure is worth more than a few album sales, at least in the beginning. At this point, I've got a nice fan base that I can directly communicate with.

By the way - I'm using MailChimp (http://www.mailchimp.com) for mailing list management.

I know we'll have t-shirts made and have a self made 3 song ep to sell for a couple of bucks, it's just we're nowhere near having enough songs for a full album and selling it for 10 bucks. But we know that we want to get music out there for the sake of shows and what not. It's a chicken and egg kind of thing it seems.
