Plus even then I really didnt dig the MOD series.

Yeah it sounded good, but lets get at what these things fundamental practicality were supposed to be.

They where supposed to be 4 channel super monster amps with tube preamps emulating classic sounds.

I dug the sound of them and how they sounded, but the feel of them isnt for me, I didnt feel or really dug the mojo of the amp cause i dont feel they did a good job of capturing the tone they claimed they sought to replicate, i felt my POD xt plugged into my amp does a better job of that.

^YES!

they are the {censored}, "mini plexi's"!

i am in
with them!

I wouldn't say that by a long shot.

I had a Rebel 20, and it did have a wide range of tones available.

The knobs and switches all DID something noticeable, but

It just had this 'compressed' not-quite-dynamic sound to it that I just couldn't gel with.

Sure it got loud, and could sound quite clean, or quite a bit of distortion, but it just didn't seem 'alive' if you know what I mean.

Rebel 20 =/= Tweaker 15

I agree with your assessment of the rebel. I thought it was a terrible pedal amp, too.

I'd bet that in the massive industrial complex where they're manufactured the plant manager just wanders down the street to the place that rips off brand name semiconductors and buys cut rate {censored} instead of the quality stuff spec'd and skims the difference.

I've heard really nice sounding Egnater stuff but the Tourmaster my buddy bought was an absolute {censored}ty sounding lemon. He got it when the Chinese made AC-30 he bought from GC blew up and he returned it. The Egnater was noisy and just had weird issues so he got the manager at GC to take it back even after the return window seeing as the last 3 amps he bought from them were all straight pieces of {censored}. He bought a Road King instead (the amp the Tourmaster was a strait rip-off of) and was totally happy.

Honestly, I've not really liked any of the Egnater stuff that I've heard/played outside of the TOL/Modular but I'm glad Bruce is having some success with his stuff and even the Chinese made amps seem to be pretty well supported based on some of the items that have cropped up at rig-talk. :idk:

Awaiting the return to manufacturing of the modular and release of the E2....I think there will perhaps be a manufacturing partner rather than hand built in Egnater shop though.

My point is not that the guy spent $800. It's that the amp consistently had problems. And, as far as starting the thread, I see folks post threads all the time about pornography and politics, which are off topic. I don't think it's fair to knock me for posting a thread about rumored amp troubles on an amp forum.

Well the claim that he spent $800 on repairs is pretty ridiculous. Thats why that comment is getting knocked so hard. If he spent that much I question that the guy even knows how amp works, if he can even figure out how to turn it on.

So when it come to this thread there is question that needs an answer.

Is the problem with the amp a quality control issue or a design flaw? If it was a design flaw I think there would be a lot of horror storys out there about the amp.

When it comes the QC, I know that when they first switched over production to china that they had some issues with that. Enough so that Egnater and his son addressed the issue in one of the forums. But that was in like the first 6 months of production.

So you do have a valid concern. I understand, just not such good storys to go along with it.

the new high gain series is great (
Armageddon/Vengeance
). I don't like any of their blond tolex amps though (Tweaker, Tour Master, Renegade etc).

This. The NAD the other day with both as well as 2 412s for them was siiiick. Are they made in the US or is everything made overseas? :idk:

stiff, glassy (in a bad way) and not pedal friendly?

I tried to like the Rebel 20, but I could not dial out that thin, harsh midrange. Whats weird is the only good tones I could get from it were with my Schecter C1 w/ EMG81 knockoffs. Everything else was earpiercing bright and harsh.
