Hiwatt amps are clean strong articulate voiced needing a dirt box . Plexi amps vintage everything ,knowledge of tubes and cathode follower tubes may be needed . 6550 tubes have the best crunch on the planet,el-34 tubes have the best midrange in the universe ! $2k humm- a less breakable amp Could be the THD 50watt plexi maybe ! Self bias cathode circuit and no switching heavey duty tranformers and thick glass boards. Dr.Z less controls is best theory is Jim Marschalls designs at THD a pure singing tone at its best .
