Members Belva
Any time I've come across a guitar that is way out & just won't intonate I've always first done a sight check for alignment, neck relief, etc. Quite often the strings are just plain shot. New strings, a few tweaks & it's good as used again. I see intonation questions here, on the electric & accoustic forums & I never see anyone address the string issue. Why is that? Just like your car. If your tires are getting thin a front end alignment isn't gonna help. Ya don't fix your carburetor if your spark plugs are shot. Aint strings like tires? Members Bubbalou
Your right. Dead or bad strings can cause intonation issues. Also, if a pickup is adjusted too close to the strings the pickups magnetic field will pull the strings off tune and drive you crazy trying to intonate the strings. Members WRGKMC
You can even have bad intonation with certain batches and types of new strings. A guitar usually requires a complete going over including the frets.
