Members UMT
Yo, hope everybody is having a 'Cool Yule!' I'm helping a buddy sell a couple guitars and both have pick scratches. Any ideas on removing or 'softening' these pick scratch areas without refinishing the entire guitar? I would appreciate any ideas or your experiences. Members boxorox
Hard to say with out knowing the severity. Just little drag lines? Is the finish dented? Is the finish actually broken? Is it thru to the wood?
Members UMT
No, the finish is not broken nor dented. I would call them 'little drag lines' more than anything.

Members UMT
Actually played around this afternoon with some fine rubbing compound, gentle rubbing and could probably get them out all together. Just have to be careful not to get all the way thru the top clear layer. I 'softened' them up quite a bit and will leave well enough alone at this point. Members Pope on a Rope
Now you should follow up with a swirl remover then a finish polish. Meguiars is good stuff as somebody already mentioned. The swirl remover will buff out the fine scratches made by the abrasives in the rubbing compound. The finish polish will put a nice shine on it and will further conceal the deeper scratches you didn't buff out all the way with the rubbing compound.
