I have used finish screws before along with cleats on really big cabs. Like a big 2X12 or a 4X12 and it worked out fine. I also glue the hell out of them. But I can get really anal about my cleats I rip them on a 45 and sand them up all nice and pretty and stuff. Hay what can I say, I

the Birtch Ply from Home Depot makes great sounding cabs really...here is my main gigging 4x12...sounds HUGE...made it about 3-4 years ago (using Shavano as a rough guide)

here is how I joined it, glue and screws in the brace to really secure it...was going to build another 4x12 with better joints but think Im just going to do a 2x12 since the 4x12 is super strong:

Nice Cab!
:thu:

thanks...it was fun (went into it pretty much blind...there wasn't nearly as much info then as there is now)) and I'm looking forward to the next build...have the wood cut and everything, just gotta put it together...a LOT cheaper than buying pre-made and from my experience, it sounds better than any other cab I've gone through

Now for the finishing question.

http://jam4jmessageboard.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=2378719

I recently found this tutorial on tolexing. Another method, which I prefer is to use truck bed liner. A quart will do a 212 with a bit left over. I use Duplicolor because it's available at most auto parts stores. Use a 3/8' to 1/2" nap roller and the finish will be pretty close to that of tolex. Use a 1" chip brush on the edges and you're done. No primer needed. This stuff is as hard as a teenaged boy who just took Viagra.

^ funny-

I got tolex covering from a fabric store...1/4 the price and pretty easy to do really...when I did my cab there was NOTHING on tolexing...I just took my time...took a whole day pretty much, but I let it sit a dry alot

howdy, i just stumbled upon this thread. a few years ago i built a 2x12 cabinet based on a design from the book "DIY speaker cabinets for musical instrument applications" by kevin o'connor. you canget the book from elderly instruments, probably also from amazon.

the interestingthing about his designs is that they are detuned cabinets, for example mine is a 2x12, but only one driver. the hole for the other 12 driver is empty, and the back waves from the driver come out the empty hole and together provide the perceived loudness of 2 12" drivers at 1/2 the cost and weight.

that is a mosvalve 1160 by tubeworks. Genz Benz was the parent company... it is SS stereo 80w per channel with a gain and presence control for each channel. I have another vid of it with an ADA preamp that i was selling. the power amps are fairly inexpensive on *bay. just got to watch for them... they are pretty much bullet proof too.
