you guys have seen these russian kits right?

http://www.ampclones.com

pro PCB's and chassis specials currently like $150 delivered!

http://www.ampclones.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6

just buy and get parts from Mouser as you can afford it; boutique amps on an installment plan!

Iron from Edcor and your bottom line is pretty damn low

sloclone has guidance on many of these builds/mods

I have no financial stake but these guys are well loved

it is more involved, but places like sloclone and ax84 make it as painless as possible. IME the biggest traps for novices in these PCB builds is putting things in backwards (EL caps and NFB wires!) and messy wire routing. Ultra high gain amps (even tested PCBs) do not tolerate rats nests well, so the neater the better and copying experienced builders is a great place to start.

One caveat is that these amps, while great sounding, are vastly overpowered for the home user, porting these preamps into a low watt power amp and the use of cheaper/smaller transformers saves money and neighbor complaints, check out some of Bancika's videos on this practice, and discussions at ax84.

did he clone the smashguitars PCB? None of the other amps exist on sloclone in a PCB format to my knowledge and I have not perceived any animosity over at sloclone; the majority over there just want amps not IP. The $135 currently gets you this

5 PCBs and a stainless steel, welded, painted and labeled chassis, well on your way to making a $2k amp, no harm no foul.

Dude the rumor going around is that the guy who sells those ripped up the layouts for his pcbs from the sloclone forums. Take that as you will. Also the slo clone forum pcb is like 30$ compared to this 150$ pcb.

Lies. None of the stuff offered at ampclones.com was stolen or ripped off from anywhere on the net or elsewhere! Smashguitars PCBs are completely different - the ones sold at ampclones.com have PCB mounted sockets and dual tonestack. There are no place except ampclones.com where you can get such PCB's.

No animosity meant. Just a rumor. A lot of contributors at the clone forums have stopped sharing info, stating it was because people are commercializing their work. And well there is alot of rumors going around. I don't know the veracity but thanks for clearing it up man. btw are you abube? That's not a bad package for 130$.

Over at Sloclone I heard Titan Amps were the thieves, the guy (knucklefux?) lurked for a year then posted his amps web site with the smashguitars PCB "Not for commercial use" silkscreens clearly visible. There's always (at least) one douche in a crowd...

The fuss over at the SC forum was that the maker of those PCBs was not involved in any way in the reverse engineering of those amps, but decided instead to just take the work done and plaster ebay with their PCBs which were way overpriced (something like $150 for a Mark IIC+ set). There was also at least one case (Uberschall) where the guy started demanding that someone send him finished schematics for the amp so he wouldn't have to read back through the 30 pages where the circuit was fully described, and got all pissy when people told him to shove off. Someone eventually gave in and sent it to him, and there was a set of Uber PCBs on ebay like a week later which were rumored to be incorrect.
