I saw a video of him doing a concert, and his left hand doesn't actually play the upper neck, which is designed to let his right hand use tapping, slapping etc techniques to create two lines of melodies simultaneously and to accompany himself. And the upper neck uses a open tuning I believe, with ultra low action for the tapping/slapping stuff.

Holy Crap, looks like someone crossed an F style mandolin with a Django,a wechter, and a gibson.I've never liked those trapeze bridges or adjustables.~EH
Members guitarcapo
I've never plated a style O that sounded any good. I've played a nice sounding L-4 from that era though.
Members greystoke 2
Hurry and check ebay Can. 's acoustic/other auction. I wish I knew how to 'link' to save this puppy for posterity but the description is a italian 40's vintage rare acoustic "guitar" that puts the ugh in ugly. The person has it listed at 3000.00 $ and not suprisingly - no takers yet. I asked the guy what happened to the bow but more to the point; it's missing a hammer. Oh and 'i wanna les paul', I think the subject was UGLY instruments. Just kidding!Greystoke

Members Unk
Whoa!! Replacement strings for the one on the left must cost more than the guitar. Time to check the humidity level there.
Members i_wanna_les_paul
This is an unusual piece. It's a violin guitar made by Portland Fret works. It was on ebay a few days ago, and the bidding started at $999 - not sure if it had a reserve or not. Strung so guitar players can play, too! Members greystoke 2
1st of all...Wat'ch ya got there LiL Bro is the "Phallic" Model by Convex; and it appears to be a "older" model [i'll ask my wife]. Those strings made by Viagra go a 'long' way in 'stiffening' up the flaccid sound these 'woody' members of the sound 'hole' fraternity sometimes 'expose ' with heavy use[i'll ask my wife]2ndly that last inst. [violinish] must be a challenge to play down the neck there!Greystoke

I was also noticing the frets toward the end of the fretboard and how close together they are - I wonder if they did the math to place them or if they just thought no one would play up there, so they just threw some on there for aesthetic purposes Dustin
