The Grand Final of this competition is being held this coming weekend. The competition has 5 categories: Woodwind; Strings; Brass; Percussion and Keyboards. The winner of each category goes through to the Grand Final which will then produce an overall "Young Musician of the Year"

The finals of the "Strings" category were shown on TV last night - the finalists had previously been narrowed down to 4 musicians - Violinist; Cellist; Harpist and Guitarist - and the guitarist won! An 18 year old named Jadran Duncumb.

Here is a link telling you a little about him:

And here is a link to his category final performance:

What out for him.

Thanks, that was a real treat I would otherwise have missed.

[for those of you outside UK, his performance was:
J S Bach - Partita no.3 BWV 1006; 1st mvmt: Preludio
Leo Brouwer - Sonata, 2nd & 3rd mvmts: Sarabanda de Scriabin & La Toccata de Pasquini
Roland Dyens - Tango en Skai
The Bach was a real joy - I am currently listening to the Brouwer, which I don't know, but which seems to have great moments of calm...]

Unfortunately, the site doesn't allow the rest of the world to see the video. UK only. Too bad.

Hey! - everyone across the pond - I didn't realize it was a "UK only" video - I wouldn't have posted the thread if I had known you folks couldn't watch. Sorry
