Members garthman
The Grand Final of this competition is being held this coming weekend. The competition has 5 categories: Woodwind; Strings; Brass; Percussion and Keyboards. The winner of each category goes through to the Grand Final which will then produce an overall "Young Musician of the Year" The finals of the "Strings" category were shown on TV last night - the finalists had previously been narrowed down to 4 musicians - Violinist; Cellist; Harpist and Guitarist - and the guitarist won! An 18 year old named Jadran Duncumb. Here is a link telling you a little about him: http://www.bbc.co.uk/youngmusician/sites/contestants/pages/jadran_duncumb.shtml And here is a link to his category final performance: http://www.bbc.co.uk/youngmusician/sites/competition/video/jadran_perf.shtml What out for him. Members triumphant_gleam
They must have a tight bandwidth budget. Well, they have to save money there otherwise they wouldn't be able to pay Jonathan Ross 10 million a year...
Members garthman
Just a quick update: Alas, Jadran didn't win the title - it went to a 12 year old trombonist (who was superb, BTW). But Jadran played an excellent "Concerto D'Aranjuez" which you can see here (sorry US forumites - you probably won't be able to view it):http://www.bbc.co.uk/youngmusician/sites/competition/video/jadran_concerto.shtml
