Hey all,

For all of you Mac users that have purchased a copy of iLife 2009, what do you think of the built-in guitar lessons included with the program? I have been watching through them, and they do seem to cover the basics fairly well. They don't teach all of the standard chords, and they only teach 2 barre chord movements, but what they do teach is tought very effectively.

What do you all think?

Thanks,

Delphinius Hume

It comes with new Macs and is a suite of basic applications, including GarageBand, iMovie, and iWeb, easy to use, very basic DAW, non-linear movie editor, and web page designer, respectively, in addition to more prosaic apps.

Are they for serious work?

Not really. But they're easy to get started with and use and, for most casual users, they're probably enough.

(GB has some serious limitations but is still surprisingly useful. iMovie just came out with some improvements that makes it a little closer to powerful but affordable movie editors like Sony's Vegas. iWeb is fine as long as all you want to do is design a basic, static web page. But it writes absolutely hideous, inefficient code. That said, while you can edit that code in a true web editor or even a text editor, any changes you make to the code will be lost when you regenerate the page from iWeb, since it stores your page design in its own internal format and simply generates that awful code when you hit the button. Still, if all you want is to get basic web page up, it should be fine. Broadband download speeds make its bad code tolerable from the user perspective. That said, I can usually smell an iWeb site from a ways off. Do a 'view source code' from your browser and you'll see that it embeds specific and redundant style information through all your code, a worse practice that supposedly will not be supported in future browsers but is OK for now.)
