Members DarkHorseJ27
If your planning to run the pickup through a preamp, are the differences between the Rare Earth and the Neo-D negligible (as long as both or humbucker or single coil)? Just curious.
Members OldGuitarPlayer
The NeoD is passive so it does help using it though a good pre-amp/DI like the L.R. Baggs Para/DI. I have used mine with one and it sounds great. I have also used my NeoD without a pre-amp and it sounds good but sometimes you just need an extra signal boost to the mixer. I have used my NeoD for over 3 years now it sounds great and it's never failed me. Unlike the crappy Dean Markley soundhole pickup I used to have. I also have a Behringer ADI-21 Acoustic pre-amp/DI for times when it's needed.
Members Chordchunker
I have both and the rare earth totally blows away the neo for output and tone imo with or without a preamp, BUT mine is the single coil and gets a nasty 80cycle hum if you are playing near beer signs. I use a EQ pedal for the neo to give it a good boost and to be able to shape my tone from onstage.
