Members The Professiona
Hey there,I have replicated 1000 CDs through a local company, and have CD art ready to be printed. However, I don't have a barcode yet. I will be selling a lot of these CDs through 3 local retail stores, so it is necessary I have a code, but I'm not really sure where to get one for a one-time use. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
Moderators daddymack Posted August 17, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2012 your disc replicator should have the ability to handle that for you.
Members The Professiona
your disc replicator should have the ability to handle that for you. Unfortunately, since I used a local company, they don't have that capability, which i didn't find out about until after the fact (which has caused me a few other problems as well). Thanks! Members scarecrowbob
Are there specific retailers who need you to have a barcode?
Members A. Einstein
What code you need depends on the territories you distribute your CD, it's important to add the proper codes, also that you get your royalties, for example a German radio station would not play your song if it has no LC code there are at least a dozen codes... Members The Professiona
I plan on only distributing through local retailers - for example, here are 2 stores that will be selling my CDs: https://www.facebook.com/earshotnc http://www.wefeedyourhead.net/ws/ They do both require barcodes for CDs to be sold through them. I'm in North Carolina, in the states, so that's the location that would be applicable for the codes. I'm not distributing through a record label, so royalties aren't so much an issue as the stores have to keep track of what they sell so I can collect payment from them once a month - that's how it works with both these local stores when they sell local music. Members A. Einstein
then the local stores can stick their internal stickers on it For the other outlets: https://www.facebook.com/earshotnchttp://www.wefeedyourhead.net/ws/ I have no clue. Members A. Einstein
... oh, they are also stores, they must have an internal sticker, or they would have no control what gets sold
Moderators daddymack Posted August 17, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2012 Go here and read... hope that helps...there are plenty of places that will give you multiple UPC barcodes for under $75...
Members A. Einstein
The global UPC does not work for the large retailers of physical compct disc, they have their own identification numbers. For the shop around the corner, you simply sell them a bunch of CDs and cash in your sales prices right away, or you get a quittance and then you go back a month later to see what they sold, and take the items back they did not sell.
