Members jmingo
On strats in praticular i see alot about C shape or V shape neck, and also about radius.... 12", 9.5", 7.25" What's all this mean? How's this determined, measured, etc? Also, I have a Jazzmaster, that's a 7.25" radius and a C shape, right?? Thanks
Members kwsher
Here's a nice explanation of the neck shapes. Just think of the fretboard radius as a slice (arc) of a circle having the indicated radius. A 7.25 radius fretboard is an arc, the distance of the actual fretboard width, of a circle having a 7.25 radius. The consensus is that narrow fretboard radii are easier for chording and flatter radii better for solo work.

Members jmingo
thanks for the comments and the pic.. that cleared that up. still wondering exactly how you measure the radius?? near the bottom of the next by the pickups? so kwsher: what your saying is that a 7.25" radius would be good for chording, and a 12" would be good for lead work?? Members Armitage
Here you go, this should help. The bigger the radius, the flatter the fretboard. Shredders tend to prefer flatter boards, and others think a bit more curve is easier for some chords.

Or a "compound radius" for both. http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/necks/necks.cfm?fuseaction=radius

Members Kin Corn Karn
so what are Fender's current shapes for production MIA strats? They seem more U-like to me.
