Members Blacksheep
Casino. I just bought one off ebay, and will post a thorough thread when it gets to me. Members BAZGUITARMAN
I bought an Artcore AGS83B last month and the love is getting stronger. The guitar rocks so hard and that`s with the stock pups. It looks beautiful and the fit and finish are great. It played perfectly right out of the box. The best money I`ve spent on a guitar lately. I highly recommend this model. I bought mine locally for $520.00 with matching HSC. Eric
Members T Rice
I have a Epi Dot Deluxe and it's great but if your looking for a true jazz box check out the Epi Emperor Regent. I have one as well and for jazz it rips. beautiful fit, finish and playability.Limited to one floating humbucker but for jazz tones it's all you need. Sound awsome unplugged as well. Worth a look... Members unistudent1980
Lower end artcores pwns Dot studio.Mid level artcore are about equal to the Dot.George benson artcore sig is lovely. But I''m also a great fan of the Epiphone supernova. I absolutely detest the dot studio. I really honestly tried at least half a dozen (they're the only ones that come in white) but the binding was screwed on 4, the f hole cuts were ragged and the toggle/pots were just disgustingly inconsistent. Some were uber sensitive others did nothing maxed out. I'd tend to go with the artcore range as there's better variety, I own an AFS75. There's models figsby's available if you're so inclined. Members Ryan Trevisol
I played the AS73 in Sam Ash the other day, and I have to say I was NOT impressed. I could NOT for the life of me get any high's out of the neck pickup. It was like eating a mud sandwich! The bridge pickup was _okay_ but the overall tone of the guitar just wasn't there. Members ProToneThinline
I have two Epi's - a Dot and an Emperor II (Joe Pass). I'd highly recommend either. I've played just about all the Artcores, and (sorry to you Artcore owners) I think they just have a cheap feel. The ony one I would consider buying is the AF105. The ebony knobs and tailpiece look kind of funky, but it sounds good. I've played several Dot Studios, and they are kind of inconsistant, but none had any issues that couldn't be fixed with a little TLC. The Dots, Dot Deluxes, and Sheratons are more consistant. I remember reading somewhere that it was a jazz player woh originally suggested the Casion to the Beatles. As a true howwlw body, it was designed as a real jazz guitar. The Ibanex AF-105 is very nice. It has, I believe, Super 58 pickups which are going to be superior to the usual ACH Ibanez buckers of the less expensive ArtCores.THe other hollow body I would suggest is the slightly older Ibanez ArtStar AF-120. I love that guitar, they appear on Ebay periodically and go in the $400 range. Sounds and feels great, 2 Super 58's - sweet box!

Members mongrel876
The fully hollow Artcore with the single floating pickup is a really nice guitar and seems to be the max bang for the buck although it is more expensive than the semi's. I have a AFS75T artcore. Nicely built, but very generic sounding. It is a very nice looking guitar, but very bland sounding. I had a old timer tell me it was a nice Gretch. I think with a pickup change, I would enjoy it more. It is what I would expect from a completely CNC manufactured guitar. I also have a HB32 Washburn which I like a hell of a lot. Members maccashash
If you get it set up right, I think the Artcores are way better, even with stock pickups. I'm selling my Epiphone because the tone is just too muddy. In addition, the Epi has noticeable finish flaws and glue drippings around the f-holes and worst of all, bad frets that needed to be redressed. Artcores seem more neatly made. Also, they are usually lighter (you can decide if that's a good thing or not).
Members maccashash
I'm talking about the Epi Dot Standard vs. a similar Ibanez model, BTW. Also, the Ibanez is $100 cheaper.
Members numbthumb
Artcores are so inexpensive for what you get that it really is hard to go wrong, but every now and then, there's a really great one. I chose an AM-73 over the Epi DOT or Sheriton three years ago, but if I were buying a semi today, I'd quite likely get that great looking AGS-83B. Nice one! The Super-58 pups are nicer than the regular ART-1 pups in most Artcores. I don't recommend swapping out Super-58s if the model you pick has them. Artcores are neatly quite neatly constructed (wood and electrics). My two Artcores are much tidier than my MIK Casino. Also, I've never like the humbuckers in MIK Epiphones, whereas their P-90s are great. I should point out though that it is hard to go really wrong with any brand of semi if the neck is good and the wood-work is good. You will likely upgrade the pick-ups and some other pieces and will have a great guitar at the end. Finally, full hollows are different than semis. I use my Casino quite differently than my semi-hollow. In a preference contest between my hollow Artcore AK-85 (equipped with SD Seth Lovers) vs my Casino, I prefer my AK-85, and by a lot. The Casino is still a tremendous guitar and it was my favorite for a while. In the Epi line of semis, the AlleyKat and WildKat are very interesting models, and are well worth a look. The WildKat, with its P-90s is really something out of the ordinary. Make sure you have a lot of fun making your selection.
