I'd look into a Duncan Custom V

or a

DiMarzio Tone Zone

Didn't like the EMG HZs? (I haven't heard those yet)

to not like them is an understatement.

i've had many high end ESPs with EMGs, and i really don't see what the big deal is. i think its in people's head that if it takes a battery or 2, it must be better. i could see if it was meant specificly to have an active EQ in the pup, but to just add more output, i don't see it. and the HZs are not good at all. the ones in it anyways. alexi laiho uses HZ4s, which i would think sound better, but then again, he's endorsed for it, so who knows.

hzs are passive pickups=no battery.
