Members Zeopold
I currrently have stock pup in the neck which is fine, and a Vintage Broadcaster in the bridge on a 4-way selector, but the Broasdcaster still cuts through a little too shrill for my ear and I'm loooking for a fatter lead tone. Can I coil tap the '59, and if so, do I need a 5-way selector?
Members Ampegocaster
You can tap the lil '59, you just need to ground the red and white wires i believe. The swtich needs to be able to switch two poles for every position to accomplish this. I really like how the '59 sounds when it's tapped.
Members septopus
The little '59 is a great pup, are you talking about having the coil tapped or split? I have a push/pull tone pot and the '59 is split, and it definitely makes an excellent single coil.
Members Karma1
I had a 72 Tele Custom that I installed a Little 59 in the bridge, with a coil split switch (push/pull). It's a great sounding bridge pickup and is definitely fatter and fuller sounding than a stock single coil. Which is exactly what I wanted for high gain leads. For that, the 59 really screams. As far as the tone of it when split, I found it too thin and bright for my taste and I rarely ever used it in single coil mode - but other players might like it. Members Zeopold
So, If I stick with the 4 way selector and put a push/pull pot in I'm good to go? Thanks for the advice, chaps.
