Yeah, I saw it too.

I believe that's the second time I've seen Jim's guitars in there, but this time it was a larger review. I think the previous time it was in the pages that just toss out gear with brief descriptions. This review was more "in depth".

Congrats!

Yeah, it's in the lastest edition (just out) of GuitarOne.

I think the first blurb I saw was also in G1.

That's about the only guitar rag I subscribe to these days.

(I miss "Guitar Shop". That was better for guitar porn.)

I'll look at the write up again tonight. I think I've just scanned the article so far.

I could mail you a copy of it on Monday if you PM'd me you address.

They should let you know when they are going to post a review so you could purchase their dubious "Guitar 1 Award of Excellence"

I wonder how much advertising dollars those cost. :D

But it is cool your stuff is in there again.

Thanks. There's supposedly a copy on the way. I've been going out to check the mail with great anticipation every morning just to find a pile of bills and catalogs. ): Hopefully it will be here in the next day or two. Regardless of how long it takes though, I must say that they treated us very well. It was really a smooth process.

I may actually keep the review guitar this time too. I really couldn't afford to do that with the guitars from the first two reviews we had so they both ended up sold. This time, our production and sales are both high enough, that this one will probably become my personal 6-string.

They definitely liked it, and it sounded good on the CD-Rom that comes with the mag. Though it didn't get a G1 Award. I guess because they want it to play like it does, but cost $499?
The dude talks about how all the money obviously goes into the construction, fit and finish of it, and not the flash. I would think that that is reward worthy.

That would be the equivalent of the Frets99 award for the $100 Squier 51!

Jim'd have to find someplace out east.... far east, to be able to make a guitar of his quality for anything even coming close to that price.

Congratulations in the article!!:thu:

Love looking and listening, though!

And by Oompa Loompas you mean a quality factory in South Korea? :D

That would be pretty sweet, especially the 7 string. But I don't think that's the market that Jim intends upon going for.

Thanks.

I've toyed with the idea of doing an Asian model, but it's a pretty big project and would take a lot more money than I've got to get started. The general consensus is that getting set up and building the first batch would cost about $150,000. I would also have to spend a whole lot of time in-country (I assume either China or Korea) over-seeing the project. And after that I'd be in the business of mass marketing a commodity guitar. It might be a good business move, but I'm not sure I like what all that would mean for my life-style. I haven't rejected the idea entirely, but it not somehting I'm going to rush into immediately either.

That could be part of the ad campaign!! Made by cute and loving Oompa Loompas in Oompa Loompa land. Cut to beautiful fields, rushing streams... gorgeous swan guitar music playing in the background...

An Oompa Loompa comes up to the camera with a Swan in his hands. Camera zooms on the headstock where it says... lovingly inspected by Oompa Loompa #578..

Brings tears to my eyes I tell ya...:p:D

Yeah, it'd be hard for a small operation-most big companies send a few lackeys over to do the overseas work.

Of course, if you need a lackey....:D

Definitely hold up on that idea. Your reputation is great so far, but you aren't well known enough yet to make it work. People have to feel like the are buying the prestige of a Swan for short cash. Everyone knew about and drooled over PRS before the SE's came out. But considering the fans you have around here and the gorgeous guitars you are building, I don't think you're too far away. Make the kids drool over your work, and then you're golden.

You're probably right. Besides, this way is much more fun. We get to experiment all we want without a lot of concern for cost control. That give us a creative freedom we'd never have with a mass manufactured retail line.

Right. Jim's working on the underground buzz of cool designs and impeccable workmanship, but I don't think it's gone mainstream yet.

Until you get a few instruments in visable places in the pantheon it'll take venture capital money to get the word out, and you don't want to go there.

Maybe it's time to get one into the hands of Tuck Andress and/or Pete Anderson. I'd bet Pete would dig one with 'bucker sized P90's.
