Members D-River Posted September 15, 2009 Members Posted September 15, 2009 Hi everybody! I just want to ask a simple question: does someone know if when you buy a used record (in a store that has a "used" section) some of your money goes to the artist/record company or if the store takes it all? thanx!
Members bcolburn Posted September 15, 2009 Members Posted September 15, 2009 From what I am aware, all of the money goes to the retailer / none to the artist. I remember there being a big to-do about Used Cd's in the 90's. I wonder if down the road people will try to sell used mp3s...
Moderators daddymack Posted September 15, 2009 Moderators Posted September 15, 2009 ^ that's how it goes. Since the artist/writers got paid the first time aound, on that specific unit, then there is no valid reason to pay them again, as record sales are accounted on 'new' units. Imagine the nightmare for the used shop owners, swapmeet people etc., if they had to track all the label data? Ford and GM don't get a cut when a used car sells, right?
