Nut Replacement

My tele needs a nut. It plays fine but the slot for the low E is chipped and is way wider than it should be. The string actually stays in place fairly well but it just seems like I should replace it.

 

It looks like I can order a replacement for around $10. What is a normal charge to have someone install it? I did a search and I didnt find much but I thought one thread suggested that $60 was typical. That cant be true can it?

 

I am not sure I want to take a chance on screwing up my guitar but that would be a lot of money for this guitar...... for just a nut anyway.

 

So, any idea on typical price or is it really not that big of a deal to replace?

All I can say is after screwing up 4 or 5 nut replacements myself I learned to take it in and have it done by a professional. Installing a nut is an art.

I paid $30 to have a bone nut installed in my Strat about a month ago.
