Members rasputin1963
I'm curious: Are any of you familiar with a software, free or otherwise, other than iTunes, that encodes WAVs as ALAC files (Apple Lossless) suitable for my iPod? iTunes causes me a good bit of chagrin. It often shuts down inadvertently if I so much as look at it the wrong way. And their continual, universal, frenetic zeal to get you to buy s**t wears thin after awhile. Any leads? ras
Members blue2blue
Well, there have been various lossless codecs available on Windows (and *nix, I'm thinkin') systems since at least the mid-90s -- but they're not ALAC and, so, presumably wouldn't play in an iPod. Members FunkyLaptop
To directly answer your question, I don't think there are any other apps that do Apple Lossless - and it sounds like you are on Windows, so make that more so. Perhaps we could look at it from the other end - which application is saving these WAV files? Are there save options in it you can turn on and off? Is there anything else handy that would save your WAV files? iTunes might be having trouble digesting your source files, and making them in another app might work better. iTunes will use WAV files as your library format if you like. Look in Edit/Preferences, Advanced, Importing tab. I am not 100% sure, but I do not think there is any re-compression if you go that route. You could skip the Apple Lossless part entirely.
