Members sirreal7
alesis has come up with yet another audio interface . it is a new 8 channel mixer that connectcs all your gear through analogue jacks to a computer via usb 2.0 for recording . then it sends back a 2 channel stereo mix via usb 2 . 0 from the computer back to the mixer . it has 100 effects and can record at least 4 ( or more ) channels simultaneously at 24 / 96 . i think . ( there is also a 16 channel version with sliding faders ) . the multimix 8 usb 2 . 0 has knobs for faders but it is only $ 299 usd . ( this new unit is not to be confused with the older " multimix 8 usb " which used the usb 1 . 1 jack and only recorded 16 / 44 . ) i am thinking that a mixer with eight channels that records at 24 / 96 and includes effects for $ 299 might be a very good home studio toy . what has anybody heard about this new mixer please . i would like to know if it has good buzz . it is hitting stores this week . thanks . http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=107 sirreal7
Members goldear
I noticed that Yamaha also went with USB 2 for a new mixer. It comes with a version of Cubase 4. I wonder if it has anything to do with driver development. I think firewire development could be more challenging and expensive.
Gus Lozada
... if they are using USB 2.0 and keep that design of returning only a stereo mix to the computer, they are wasting bandwidth.

Members joel Oporto
Yeah but its my understanding that it still streams only stereo or 2 tracks of audio at a time, which is already possible with their USB1.1. If they stream 8 channels at a time too, then it would be interesting

Members joel Oporto
Hmmmm? It does say multichannel recording(does that mean more than stereo only?) and "2-channel outputs for recording (10 on the MultiMix 8 and 18 on the MultiMix 16) and 2 return inputs for monitoring" You guys think they made real multi-tracking on USB2.0 like the motu traveler USB?
