Members Ibarshall_X
So i'm looking for something that has very nice clean and something that is heavily gained at distortion. I once considered the EMG 81 and EMG 85, but people say that the clean sounds awful with em I want the clean to sound as accoustic as possible, yet still being electric Buti also want heavy distorion. Would be nice if the pickups would include pots and jack Can anyone help me out? Thank u
Members iansmitchell
If you do the 18V mod to the EMG 81, the cleans are DECENT.Not stratty, but certainly in the range of what a les paul can do in cleans. If you really want a clean pickup, get a clean pickup. If you want acoustic cleans, not electric cleans, then get a piezo bridge.I've also heard cleans are better on seymour duncan blackouts. Really, are you SURE you need active pickups, I mean, what's your current amp?

If so then i think i'll get it and a EMG 81 for rhythm

Members speed_tortoise
I've played blackouts before and they sound sick on high gain channels. I'm not so sure about cleans but for metal these pickups are beastly:evil:. They are a bit like emgs but they have a tone thats more raw and punchy while in my opinion emg distortion on high gain channels sounds almost digital but blackouts are kind of new and emgs have been around for a long time so emg pretty has all of there bugs worked out. The Vox Valvetronix series has a better tone, IMO. Get a good 2x12 tube combo. Marshall JCM 900 can do metal. Plus, it loves pedals, and you'll save money. Or save more and get a KRANK. Best metal Amps on earth.
Members cross.bones
If you want a Metal sound, and you like the EMG sound then get them!! I don't regret them at all! however if you don't JUST play metal then I'd go for a high output seymour duncan or dimarzio and a different amp setup. The cleans are ok, think metallica cleans, but as I say, EMG's tend to make it sound the same as all other guitars with EMG's. Which can be a good thing!! Unless you have other guitars then go for it!!
Members Ibarshall_X
I'm getting the Valve. I've tried it and i love it I listened to the Hellabuckers and i didn't really like em The blackouts, well the distortion was cool but the clean was a bit messy I like solo sounds like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Kinda like ''Always with me, always with you'' Cleans of my style are like metallicas ''Welcome Home Sanitarium'' or ''And Justice For All intro''...If Emg 81 can do these clean sounds then i'll get em

By solo pickup, do you mean neck pickup?
