Just bought a Fender Highway 1 Tele...thoughts?

I picked up my 2007 with one small mark on the back Highway 1 Tele for $322.50 shipped a few weeks ago using the Microsoft Cashback. I was planning on a MIM Tele but for that kind of scratch I figure some MIA wall art is in order.

1) The JUMBO frets are just that. If anything, it has been good for reducing the pressure I use when playing. Medium Jumbos they ain't, these things are mountains on the fretboard. Still not used to them.

2) The thin skin finish is just that. Playing a couple hours a day, every day, the area under my arm is already shiny and there are a couple of "dents" in that area from god-knows-what. I figure in another few months of daily playing I'll start to see wood (are we talking guitars or Viagra?) and what the heck.

3) The neck is silky smooth.

4) The gig bag is actually pretty nice. Tossed my other one. Still planing on getting a cheap Musicians Gear case from MF on the next 20% sale.

5) Another bad thing: I learned I'm a Tele guy. I really, really want a Classic Vibe Tele now for the road, but why? Even with Cashback I'd look at only a hundred less than I paid for the Highway 1....

Thats a Texas Tele you bought and they are KILLER Telecasters.

Though they are in the HWY-1 family they have several upgrades that make them somewhat different.

2-piece ASH body

52 Tele neck w/12 radius and either m-j frets or Jumbo depending on the year. Yours would be M-J frets. August of 06 and back should be M-J frets.

All US Vintage Hardware including Split-Top Nickle Vintage Tuners, and a Vintage Fender Bridge w/3-Brass Barrel saddles.

I play mine all the time as my main Tele now and bought it off a forum member here. Its the LIGHTEST production line Fender I have ever owned at just 6lbs even. I have a Fender OHSC with mine and its a 2006. Well here I'll show you...................................

The case is Fenders newer 2008 SKB which are very very nice OHSC. The only upgrade on the Tele is a Black single ply Black Fender Pick-Guard which is much thicker than the stock. And Schaller Strap Locks

Aside form is appointments which IMO are killer especially a very thin Nitro Finish? The stock pick-ups sound Great, they are voiced slightly darker and have a great mid-range tone. I don't care for Thin, ear-piercing bright Tele pick-ups. So I'm very particular with a Teles Tone. Both positions sound GREAT on the Texas Tele especially for a ASH/MAPLE combination which tend to run Bright anyway.

But $580. without a HSC is a good price for the Texas Tele especially that year and condition. Consider they sell new for $850. without a HSC? So add a Original Fender HSC into the mix and your tag for a new piece is already at $950.

Honestly I wouldn't let mine go for any less than $700. with the OHSC. Just can't find guitars QC'd like it at a 6lb weight.

So ya I'd say you have a very good deal. And they are KEEPERS that you do NOT see a lot of for-sale. Look on E-Bay, I see new piece's from time to time. But RARELY used piece's for sale. Owners/Players just don't let them go, they are that nice of a score.

nice guitar! I will warm you that I bought the same hardshell case a year ago, and I was not very impressed. for a bit more youre better off with a gator, skb, roadrunner etc. my tolex lifted in spots from not enough glue. Cool guitar though, I never played the HW1 Texas. looks promising. Congrats!
