Members Rottdoggie
Hey guys...We are playing a casino for a private/corporate reception. The Catering Sales Rep at the casino informed our client that the band needs to supply the casio with proof of "Commercial General Liability Insurance" coverage. First time in decades I've heard of the request. What is the best way to handle? Thanks!

Get some or pass . That about sums it up. That also weeds out about 99% of the bands.
Members RiddimRyder
Join the AFM, pay your Union dues, and get their discounted Liability and equipment insurance through them. Half the price, better coverage and less aggravation than going through an agent/agency. You can do the entire process online. Covers your band - named band members for liability coverage to $2M. They also offer a very good price on equipment theft/loss, etc.
Members Rottdoggie
How much does this typically run? Can we get just a 24-hour policy? We are just part-time musicians and only making around $600 plus expenses for the gig.
Members jamesewells
I purchaed mine from www.theeventhelper.com. Was around $130 for $1mil policy for 1 evening. The yearly policy is not too bad, either, if you do a lot of events. Totally online, download your certificate.

Members Shaster
As a member of the AFM for many years, I can say that the affiliated AFM gear and liability insurance rates are the lowest I've found - at least in Canada. But you do have your yearly dues - and work dues if you file your gigs. However you get a nice semi-gloss magazine once a month You also get a starting point for money negotiations if you're dealing with noob clients. My wife was also involved in a music organization (ORFF) and put on several events and concerts a short while ago. I would get "event" insurance from a local provider and IIRC it cost somewhere in the $100 to $150 region per event. As stated, it's also sometimes less expensive to get yearly coverage for those types of insurance, depending on how many events per year you're doing. Years ago, when I used to play stateside a couple of months a year, I would get yearly medical travel insurance for the band. It was way cheaper than doing it on a gig by gig basis, YMMV.
