Members ElectricPuppy
Well well well... the annual upgrade treadmill continues. BUT! Lookie here, it looks like they're aiming at Ableton with their new "matrix view". http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Default.aspx?Prod=SR8.5 Interesting... Members bruto
I almost bought Sonar 8 last month. This looks extremely interesting.
Members mildbill
The DAW's are all starting to look a little alike to me, with similar features too. Cakewalk/Sonar sure seems to have a lot of paid upgrades though - way too many IMO.
Members ElectricPuppy
Agreed. And yet I went ahead and paid their annual fee anyway, I'm downloading it right this minute. 2 GB download. I skipped Sonar 7 because I didn't think it offered enough beyond 6 to make it worth what they were asking, and besides, it turned out to be cheaper in the long run when I finally upgraded to 8 last year; Had I upgraded from 6 to 7 to 8, it would have cost more than it did to just jump from 6 to 8. Go figure. I'm shelling out this time only because I really want to try that matrix view thingie.
Members The Real MC
I'm still running Cakewalk Pro Audio v3.5. On WFW311. Works great.
Members evildragon
I had Sonar 7. Too much a bloat. Switched to Reaper 3, never looked back since. Ever.
Members Paolo Di Nicolantonio
Yep, I saw it... I guess they didn't have enough material this September to do a full upgrade? It was going nicely along with the number of year, this breaks the pattern or perhaps they'll offer v.9 in three months or so... Let me know if it works well.. I might do the same
Members Cygnus64
I'm on Sonar 3.
Members mildbill
I'm on Sonar 3. I have Cakewalk 6 (before the Sonar series) sitting in a drawer somewhere - not on my computer. I didn't jell with it at all.
Members lith_power
Better low latency handling, and more consistent MIDI synchronization, that's what I'd like to see! I like the look of the Matrix though.
Members ElectricPuppy
Yeah.... so it turns out the matrix is only good for playing existing loops. Want to record a loop on the fly a la Live? Nope. On top of that, the feature isn't even mentioned at all in the User Guide that I paid $20 more for in the hopes it might explain it. No, it's buried in the online help.
