Members Squak&Scream
What is a "civil war" Big Muff? Who uses them? What do they sound like? How rare are they? I found one for sale but don't know anything about them.

Members Grueller
Take a regular NYC muff and imagine it being a little less raspy, with a little more juice in the low end. I miss the one I had, but it didn't exactly sound the same to me after I had it recapped/rehoused by another forumite. I would not recommend the original russian muffs because the switches and jacks are very prone to failure. There are some faithful clones out there. The first one that comes to mind is the Box of War by Wren and Cuff, but there are others.
Phil O'Keefe
From the link goodhonk posted: "Contrary to popular belief, these Russian made pedals were not made with spare tank parts, ammunition boxes, land mines (!), or any other junk-scrap military weapons." Drats! Still, it's a cool myth. I'd love to own an original Sovtek Red Army Overdrive. They go for pretty big bucks today.
