Members djrnno
Hey All , Got a chance to pick up 2 jbl Prx 535 powered tops and 4 prx 518s powered subs . 2 of the subs have bad amps but speakers are fine . All original equipment in pretty good shape 2 of the subs work fine and so do both tops for $1250 for everything . Using it for a 4-5 piece classic rock country band 150-200 people max . Is it a good deal ?
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 13, 2015 CMS Author Share Posted August 13, 2015 If it's really as you're being told, yes, good deal. I'd be suspicious of how two subs have amps that failed, but then again, JBL does seem to have had some problems with them. Have you gotten an estimate for replacing the amps? Keep in mind the cost and trouble of shipping subs. You need a local service shop...got one? This is the reason they're asking less...you're taking on someone else's problem. Members Tomm Williams
If you have the ability, I would switch speakers in the subs from the bad ones to the good ones to make sure the drivers are functioning

Members Pro Sound Guy
I talked to the repair tech a year ago at Full Compass about the crown amps inthat model JBL. They are a certified repair shop for those crowns.

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 14, 2015 CMS Author Share Posted August 14, 2015 Make sure you put an ohmmeter on the drivers to be certain they aren't completely shorted. The amps have protection but it's always best not to prove it works!
Members Dweez Burczak
PRX is LOUD!! I imagine that the two blown subs probably tore themselves apart. Regardless, I will agree with everyone else and say that they are definitely a good buy if you are looking for volume, also very easy to set up.
