Members WRGKMC
I grew up on this magazine. I had all the 60's magazines which were a real hoot to read even by the 70's. I found this one which has a Fuzz Box Project on page 34You may want to look it over. I haven't seen this design around and it might yield some nice tones. It has a gated attack so when you stop playing it stops amplifying which is a nice feature. Some kit builder might want to try this one out and make them for sale. http://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-Poptronics/70s/1972/Pop-1972-07.pdf
Members Mr.Grumpy
Notice who the author is? There's a much more advanced version of this in his "Electronic Projects for Musicians" book, I think it's called the "Ultra Fuzz" or something, but the principal is the same: an op-amp set up as a comparator to implement a square wave type fuzz. I bet it sounds nasty, in a good way.
Members WRGKMC
Tell you the truth I didn't look, but now that you mention it, that's a real hoot. Go figure.
Moderators AMZ-FX Posted May 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted May 28, 2015 I built that circuit back in the day. It is hard to control as the comparator switches on/off at the slightest signal. Almost no dynamic range to it. As Mr.Grumpy said, the Ultra Fuzz is a more developed version, but it has some of the same problems. regards, Jack
