Good morning Space Cowboys and girls!

What a week. Dad goes in for a simple kidney stone procedure and... well all is well. But what a FREAKING SCARY WEEK! It's what happens when you're 137 years old. OK, soon to be 90 but hey. And... who knew that Kaiser Permanente had such nice wifi?

Grab your cigarettes,

And follow me out of the living room.

And I’ll get drunk enough to tell you how I feel

About the men you loved,

And how they all seemed to get the best of you

Because If I don’t say these things, you know,

Someone will.

If that look in your eyes, as I slowly go through the evidence,

Gives any insight into the void you can’t get filled

Then your heart it's bigger than any I’ve come up against.

And if nobody has loved you enough, I know now,

Someone will.

So I hope my voice can stay as clear as I need it to

But that my words take on the nature of a drill

To be set against the frozen sea inside of you

Because if I don't tell you I’m falling in love, then

Someone will.

Someone will, and maybe someday you’ll be listening.

But I could be just as you need me up until.

The kind of guy you say you’re looking for,

Sounds like the kind of guy I want to be

But if you just want someone to hold you right now, then

Someone will.

It’s the nights like this in the quieter parts of Los Angeles

When you think you see the outline of the beast, up in the hills.

Well you might be sitting beside the only person you could face it with

But if you don’t want me after tonight,

Someone will.

I have to believe that

Someone will.

Reckless Kelly a sorta country band with some pop flavor and whatever else it may be called...

My first love was a wicked twisted road

I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old

I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold

Yeah, my first love was a wicked twisted road

My first love was a castle in the sky

Never thought I'd make it 'til I had the guts to try

And I sat up in my tower while the whole world passed me by

Yeah, my first love was a castle in the sky

My first love was a fearless drive in rain

Scared to death I thought I'd never see her face again

They say God was crying so I guess he felt my pain

My first love was a fearless drive in rain

My first love was a wild sinful night

I ran out with the big dogs, guess I had more bark than bite

And though I won the battle, in the end I lost the fight

Yeah, my first love was a wild sinful night

My first love was an angry, painful song

I wanted one so bad, I went and did everything wrong

A lesson in reality would come before too long

Yeah, my first love was an angry, painful song

My first love was a wicked twisted road

I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old

I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold

Yeah, my first love was a wicked twisted road

My first love was a wicked twisted road

I started reading the lyric to the Dawes tune before I listened. I wasn't familiar with the band and expected loud dirty guitars. Was surprised but not disappointed. Good stuff.

I love these guys. Here's a FANTASTIC live rendition of the same tune. They really are the real deal and keep getting better and better each year.

^^^ Nice. I am always amazed at just how good the sound is on that show. The art of recording everybody in the same room at the same time is not lost, it lives on at Daryl's House.

The Reckless Kelly song is very nice as well.

Wow. Listen... Mayer Hawthorne channeling Brian.

A pale, pale imitation, sez I...

"My Romance" by Rodgers and Hart, sung by Carly Simon.

My romance doesn't have to have a moon in the sky.

My romance doesn't need a blue lagoon standing by.

No month of may, no twinkling stars.

No hide away, no soft guitars.

My romance doesn't need a castle rising in Spain.

nor a dance to a constantly surprising refrain.

Wide awake I can make my most fantastic dreams come true.

My romance doesn't need one thing but you.

My romance doesn't need one thing but you.

I think there are certain aging thresholds we cross. One for me was suddenly seeing authority figures - policemen, doctors, priests - younger than me. Another is when your kid turns you on to a song that you'd never heard before and now genuinely love. Such is "This is Gospel" by Panic at the Disco! I haven't liked their earlier stuff, but this is really fantastic, and dude can sing:

There's a wonderful piano version, too, arguably better:

Am a Dawes fan. Would also be in there band.

In other news, this song goes over really well in bars. Not even being sarcastic. Drunks love it. I guess because it speaks to the human condition so honestly.

Save Me Jesus They got sisters and brothers,

fighting against one another,

they got dreams and schemes and build war machines

to try and outdo each other,

we got children that are starving but that don't bother them

they're much too busy getting rich to worry about our little children

Save me Jesus,

Save me Jesus,

Save me Jesus, Jesus save me

from this God forsaken place

they got satellites and spaceships,

flying across the universe

they killed before and they'll kill again

just to say they're first,

They build monuments and churches

and things I ain't seen yet and they've signed them all with their autograph incase you might forget

Save me Jesus.....

and lord when it's all over, they'll think you should be proud and there'll be a few who'll offer you anything for your job, so when you take me Jesus, please put me among friends,

don't put me back with these power crazy money lovers again

Save me Jesus,

Save me Jesus,

Save me Jesus, Jesus save me

from this God forsaken place
