Members stickboymusic
Ok so its been a while.....like months since I have written anything. Just came up with this start of a new one. The question is.... does it work keeping the chords the same for verse chorus as is. MEGA ROUGH PHONE RECORDING http://picosong.com/fsCs/ I want it to have a cool laid back feel...... probably an inst after that verse.... another verse chorus....bridge/solo..... chorus...end What do you say? Cherry tree. I saw you dancing like a scarecrow on fireMoving around like you're hanging on a wireAnd you were dressed in your finest attireFueling all of my desires I don't know the way you do itBut you got me on my kneesI don't know the way you do itBut you do it to me Oh cherry tree. Members bee3
Nice tune... Mazzy Star'ish. I think it works with the chords being the same... the melody is interesting enough to make it work. I'd change up the bridge a bit. Maybe have the vocals in the bridge ascend... take it... somewhere else, then back into the chorus and out.
Members Oswlek
Yeah, as long as the chorus has a defined musical item (maybe a plucked reverby distorted electric or something) and there is a bridge with a wholly separate chord progression it definitely works. Members rsadasiv
I think AAAA is too repetitive a rhyme scheme for the verse. Try an AAAB (similar to Dylan's I Want You - http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bobdylan/iwantyou.html).
Moderators Lee Knight Posted October 8, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2014 Cool. If it were me and it isn't but if it were... I would change the chord progression but only as a tag right at cherry tree. Something that brings the feeling of discovery at the mention of "cherry tree". If in Am Oh cherry tree(F) -ee(Em) -ee(Dm) Maybe the -ee moves up while the chords down. Or not. I love the verse and chorus being the same progression. Who said Mazzy Star? Yes. And the way you have it now, the tag maintaining that progression, works too. It brings a feeling of "this always was and always will be". Whereas changing there brings a feeling of reveal. At the mention of cherry tree you pull the curtain back and show the world what you've found. Or, as they say, not.
