trading a Matrix 6R with MS2000R ?

I was offered to trade my Oberheim Matrix 6R with a Korg MS2000R. Considering I never really programmed the Matrix and that I'm really after its type of sound, do you think the Korg would be better ? I generally like Korgs, especially the P6, Trident and the MS10/20.

I think the Matrix6 will have an analog sound, but you might get more done/have more fun with the MS2000R. If you're not using the Matrix, do it. You can always get another one later if you miss it, they're on Ebay all the time.

Id agree with Awake77. The MS2000 is a really fun, productive and great sounding module. Just listen to STG's stuff. That Mod sequencer is seriously cool too. Id say, along with the Novation KS-Rack, its one of the best bad-for-your-buck lower end synths around.

Also, if you miss the Oberheim sound, pickup a used Matrix 1000.

If you want to try new stuff, why not. But before selling 6R, make sure you tried all 1100 free patches for it. If you don't need that sound, sell it.

For example i miss that filter sound. It has incredible smooth resonant filter, and will NEVER overdrive - perfect for aural resonant sweep pads. I need to get 1000. But this time i'll get white one. I'm tired of repairs...

I have the Matrix for a two years and really have never found it interesting enough. Somehow its sound bores me, so I thought selling it anyway. But the question is - is the MS2000 an interesting/great synth on its own ? I don't care trading analog for digital, as long as it is a special instrument. It's got 4.7 rating on vintagesynth.com

..but, 1000s are far more common on the used market. Thats why i suggested it

it also is supposed to handle sysex controller data well, as opposed to the Matrix 6 and 6r, which tend to lock up. (so Ive read, anyway)

Great? Not really, Interesting? It depends on what you find interesting.

It's a VA I want to get rid of but never seem to be able too. Heck, I even prefer the v-synth analog engine over the ms2000.

+1 there...old synths are cool, and are very capable of making modern-sounding patches but keep in mind you have to program them all from scratch. There's definitely something to be said for an inspiring preset....:)

The sound you could easily get with a VSTi. Any demo for pads / leads ?

for that price... it's the best VA synth you can get! softwares... i dont think so... havn't tried one sound like ms2000, and of coz u can get some similar sounding patches from different Vstis in a thinner sounding fasion

oh and

its even cheaper than Ion or microkorg in the used market !

The big flaws with the ms2000 are in playability unless you play one handed. You can't do things like route the mod wheel to resonance, or route velocity to decay or release, etc. It's mod matrix is really really limited in that sense. It also has significant timing issues when running against midi clock. The arp doesn't sync that great and it's easy to overload the processor even when not using the arp causing notes to be delayed, etc. The effects are shared when you run it multitimbrally and the chorus is pretty crappy.

I agree, I wouldn't say that is a very representitive sound. Compared to other VA's the ms2000 is generally pretty thin sounding.

Of course it does do a nice bandpass with distortion...

Your entitled to your opinion, but id would say the MS is one of the more original, intersting sounding VAs out there. It has some annoying features (4 note poly for one) But it more than makes up for it with cool features such as the MOD Sequencer and DWG waveforms. I would take one over a JP8000 any day. Buts that of course is my opinion :D

Gilwe! some sounds here if you havent already looked :thu:

Check patch# F01 Golden Synth !

& A09 MG BASS (Sorry, but that ain't thin sounding :D )

I agree with flat earth. If your looking for analog, the ms2k maybe not your thing..but if your looking for different, then it certaing can do that!. It seems to be a really love it or hate it kinda synth.

Ive got the MS2000BR, but am going to sell it cause I just got a Radias...but maybe not. I cant seem to bring myself to give it up....
